There’s nothing quite like the nights starting to draw in to remind us that summer is on its way out. Yes, it’s sad to be thinking of the long, wintery days ahead but hopefully we’ll make the most of a few more warm sultry evenings, and wasp-infested picnics before autumn really starts to bite. As the season changes it’s a great time of year to take stock of what’s been going on and what lies ahead.

For many of our followers and clients, September is the start of a new school term. Teachers have been busily prepping lessons and having a well-earned summer break. And publishers will be launching new products into the markets ready for next academic year.

The last few months has shown us that the ELT publishing industry is at another crossroads. Many of our clients have been in extensive transitional periods, rationalising their staff bases, revising workflows and systems as well as looking ahead for new opportunities. And we’re excited to be working with them on implementing these new changes and strategies for a more streamlined production and quicker product realisation.

For us it’s been a busy few months with an extensive recruitment campaign that has just about come to a close. Our design teams have been busy producing new courses as well as revisions of existing materials. And we’ve been involved in some really exciting concept development work for new courses hitting the markets in the future.

Our Creative Services team has been ensuring that maintain our reputation for our quality control procedures. And we’ve been sourcing new artists, illustrators and photographers to be working with over the coming months. We’ve also been involved in some wonderfully creative photo research briefs and have been project managing educational projects that will be used from the start of this new term.

Personally, as a team, we’ve had a busy few months too. Eduardo welcomed baby Julia in July and Amy had her baby, Toby, two weeks ago. Sophie is also expecting a baby in November and so took the decision to not run for another 3 years on the IATEFL MaWSIG committee as Events Co-Ordinator. And our lovely Creative Services Manager Kat got engaged! We’ll also sadly be saying farewell to Ava who has been running our blog and social networks for the last 2 years.

We’ve got lots of exciting plans ahead too, with another design student coming for work-experience, the conference season kicking off again, in-house training sessions and an event we’re running in November (details to be announced soon). We’ve got a fairly major hardware update to keep us speedy, we’re developing some new systems and we’ll be introducing our new recruits soon. Oh and the emc bake off started this week!

So all in all, whilst we’re sad to be seeing summer out we’re really excited about the season ahead.
