Earlier this summer we launched the first round of our 2022 Graduate Designer Recruitment programme. Our culture is to nurture and develop new industry talent by training graduates in all we do. Over the years we have found it to be one of the best ways to grow as a company and we are so immensely privileged that so many of our fantastic team have progressed with us from their first graduate roles into senior designers and our management and leadership team.
So we would really love to take this opportunity to welcome Niamh our newest Junior Graduate Designer who joined us at the beginning of August.
You graduated from Uni this year; what Uni have you come from? And what was your favourite project/piece you did whilst there?
I graduated from the graphic design course at Nottingham Trent. My favourite piece of work was a project I did on my dad. The brief was called “it’s not what you know it’s who you know…” I had to talk and listen to someone I knew, tell their story and communicate my insights. I chose my dad as he’s worked at Vauxhall for 40 years this year and I thought it would be a nice way to celebrate his long service.
I chose to create a timeline across a broadsheet, showcasing the ephemera and memories Dad has collected over the years.
I enjoyed this project a lot, getting to interview and spend time with my dad and actually see some of the cars he got to drive was really cool
How are you finding emc so far?
The past couple of weeks have been great, everyone has been super lovely and extremely patient with me! I think it’s safe to say I’ve learnt more in my first two weeks here than I have in my whole three years at uni.
What is it about graphic design that you love?
I love watching a project come together, it’s always very satisfying to see hard work pay off.
What do enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m sort of still figuring that out now that I’m home from uni. I definitely love a good book and I’m a bit of a foodie, so I really enjoy trying new food.
Cake or ice cream?
Cake for sure.
Pen or pencil?
A pen, my writing always looks best in a blue biro.
Tea or coffee?
Water.
Old or new?
New
Truth or dare?
Dare
The book or the film?
The book
PC or Mac?

Who’d win in a fight a crab or a terrapin?
Crab, what’s a terrapin?
And finally, what came first the chicken or the egg?
The egg.
Over the last year we have had quite a few new (and not so new) faces join us. So we will be doing a catch-up on who they all are soon. If you are a junior designer and have graduated within the last 2 years and would like to apply for our graduate scheme then please take a look at our application process here. Applications for our 2nd round of recruitment are open until 4th September.
