Meet Katie our newest designer, who joined us back in October after graduating from Uni.
How are you finding emc so far?
I’m really enjoying ‘job life’ and just being in a routine again. I feel like I fit in here at EMC design… “We’re all mad here” – Alice in Wonderland. I’ve learnt so much over the past eight weeks, simply by using the Adobe Software on a daily basis and post-it’s are my new best friend, so yeah 🙂 loving it!
You graduated from Uni this year; what Uni have you come from? And what was your favourite project/piece you did whilst there?
I came from Birmingham City University after studying ‘Visual Communication’ for three years. My favourite project at uni was during a module called ‘developing individual practice’; you can tell what happened judging from the title. This project was where I got the most freedom creatively and when my obsession with hand lettering really kicked off, instigated by my project title ‘100 days of lettering’. It’s also when I began to break the rules and just do my own stuff really.
What is it about graphic design that you love?
As you can probably guess from my previous answer, my love is lettering & typography, but also the freedom to ‘think outside the box’; I don’t think I even have a box?!
What do enjoy doing outside of work?
Coming from a massive, musical family, I’ve basically been brought up breathing music. (everyone loves a bit of alliteration). I love to sing and play my guitars (particularly obsessed with the newest addition to the fam). Black LX Little Martin called ‘Marni’… YES, I name everything. Haha!
I also love motorbikes and going on adrenaline filled adventures with my dad (especially road trips across France & Germany). I’ve been a pillion on his beasty bike since I was seven, but in the new year I hope to get my own bike and do my CBT! #bikerbabe

Tricky question for me… so I’m going to say, a double-ended pen with a pencil on top!

Old school all the way.

Who’d win in a fight a crab or a terrapin?
For sure the crab… Nip, nip DONE.
And finally, what came first the chicken or the egg?
