As Christmas lights were being switched on around the globe this week, nature not to be outdone provided its own light spectacle in the form of a Supermoon. This is the first one of 2017 and also will be last of 2017. Supermoons occur during a full moon phase where the earth and moon are at the closest point of their orbit. Supermoons appear 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger in the sky. If you missed this one you can look forward to two more Supermoons in January
